Mission Summary

The proposed PATH extension to the Newark Airport Rail Station will significantly catalyze urban development surrounding its terminus. Known as transit-oriented development, initiatives of this kind have led to expansive growth across New Jersey and nationwide. By further integrating the emergent Aerotropolis concept, a strategy that promotes reshaping cities around the changing nature of air transport and global digital communication, Newark can build exponentially on the connectivity of a new station. If comprehensively planned, the primary beneficiary of this integrative strategy, in terms of business, workforce, and connectivity, will be the South Ward of Newark, where the nucleus of development will likely occur. From there, beneficial development can potentially emanate across the City of Newark, the State of New Jersey, and the greater New York metropolitan region to create ACN, the Airport City of Newark. ACN’s mission will be to ensure the economic, social, and environmental sustainability surrounding a newly catalyzed Newark Liberty International Airport, thus stabilizing and cultivating urban development for optimal performance across many sectors.
